Tracking
Skill, Woodlore
Finding and following even faint trails left by most walking creatures, with difficulty rising for weather, age of the trail and hard ground.
From the book
Tracking lets a character find and follow even the faintest trail left by most creatures that walk. A skilled tracker has at most a 95% chance of picking up tracks. Every hour of rain or snow since the tracks were laid lowers that chance by 5%, and so does every 24 hours of age. Each level of ability the tracker gains adds 5% when hunting for old or weathered trails.
Once a trail has been found there is no need to keep rolling unless the quarry does something to break it: wading into or across a stream, pond or pool, crossing ground that is mostly rock, or going into a building or anywhere with wooden or stone floors. Indoors the chance is always halved, and a fresh check is needed for every 100 ft followed. Read Tracks must be learned first. It is a Woodlore skill costing 1,000 XP, requiring tutoring for those outside the hunting professions or a primitive or barbarian background.
