Scouting

Skill, Woodlore

Wilderness scouting: moving unseen through wild country on foot or mounted, shaking off pursuit there, and spotting others trying to do the same; scouts also travel rough terrain faster.

From the book

Scouting is the complete wilderness scout's craft. It does three things in woodland and wild country: it lets the character pass through unseen, whether on foot or riding; it lets the character throw off anyone giving chase; and it lets the character notice others who are trying to slip through or escape in the same way. The chance of success is 90%, plus 1% per level of ability, to a maximum of 99%.

Scouts are also simply faster in hard country, adding 50% to all their maximum movement totals when crossing rough or wilderness terrain. Before learning it a character must already have both Stalking and Camouflage/Ambush. It costs 1,000 XP, and as a Woodlore skill it requires a tutor for anyone who is not a hunter or raised in a primitive or barbarian culture.
