Read Tracks

Skill, Woodlore

Reading a set of tracks for what made them, how many there were and how old they are.

From the book

Read Tracks lets a character study a set of prints and work out what kind of creatures left them, how many there were, and how old the trail is. Whether the reader can actually name the creature depends on whether the Game Judge thinks the character has ever learned what such tracks look like; if not, the Judge may simply describe the prints and leave the player to guess.

The chance of success is 50%, plus 5% per level of ability, and the same modifiers used for Tracking (rain, snow and the age of the trail) may apply. Read Tracks is the prerequisite for the Tracking skill. It is a Woodlore skill costing 1,000 XP; characters without a hunting profession or a primitive or barbarian upbringing need tutoring.
