Mage
Profession, dual-classed
A dual-classed caster whose primary field is Astrology, paired with a secondary field of Divine Magic, High Magic or Enchantment. The choice makes the mage a magus, a cabalist or an archimage.
Also called Magus (pl. Magi), Cabalist, Archimage
From the book
Mages are spell casters of two fields: Astrology always comes first, and the second is Divine Magic, High Magic or Enchantment. They share a single skill list but differ in motives, alignment and powers according to that second field.
Magi (Divine Magic) can turn undead and convert others as priests do, often act as astrologer-priests, and if rich or influential may raise temples to their sun or sky patron; they must be good. Cabalists (High Magic) draw on devotion to a patron deity when using Evocation spells, invoking the patron's name to force a summoned demon or devil to save against WILL at a penalty or obey; they too must be good.
Archimages (Enchantment) have no special powers, may be of any alignment and need no patron. From 5th level every mage can cast known symbol spells without speaking, and any may build an observatory or temple-observatory that grants an extra spell a day and favorable divinations inside it.
