Ancient Lore

Skill, Arts and Sciences

Judge legends, artifacts and old coins or books.

From the book

A character steeped in ancient lore can usually tell whether a legend or old tale holds any truth, knows most of the well-known ballads and epic poems, and can judge whether an ancient artifact, book, scroll or device is genuine. Each of these judgments calls for a save vs INT.

The skill also gives a reliable eye for value: the character can always estimate what old coins, jewelry or books are worth, to within about 10% either way. Such scholars can find work as historians, librarians or museum curators. Astrologers and mages gain the skill at seventh level and enchanters at sixth; others pay 2,000 XP and, lacking access, six months of study.
