Cartography
Skill, Arts and Sciences
Mapping skill: the character can chart any terrain accurately, avoids getting lost while mapping, and can often make sense of odd or foreign maps.
From the book
Cartography is the mapmaker's craft. A trained cartographer can chart any kind of terrain accurately and will not get lost in country being mapped; the book suggests only characters with this skill should be able to map large features such as coastlines and mountain ranges.
Cartographers also have at least a 50% chance to make sense of strange or unusual maps, though what they actually learn from one is left to the Game Judge. The skill is required of anyone hoping to be hired as an explorer. Corsairs gain it at twelfth level; others pay 2,000 XP and, without access, six months of study.
