Analyze Mixtures

Skill, Arts and Sciences

Identify magical or alchemical mixtures with a test kit.

From the book

Analyze Mixtures lets a character work out what an unknown magical or alchemical preparation actually is by running it through a sequence of tests. The work cannot be done by eye: it calls for an alchemical test kit and takes somewhere between 1 and 10 minutes per substance.

The chance of a correct identification starts at 50% and rises by 5% with every level of ability. Like the other arts and sciences it is a learned discipline, gained through study or time spent among educated people; alchemists and thaumaturges pick it up at first level, while anyone whose background or profession gives no access must spend six months of study and 2,000 XP to acquire it.
