Ring and scale mail share one price line at 50+ G.P., but they protect very differently. Ring mail is Type III, absorbing 3 points per attack with no Dexterity penalty; scale mail is Type V, absorbing 5 points but costing -2 on Dexterity saves and counting as 20 lb. of encumbrance.
In the optional wear rules, two or more days of wet weather gives ring or scale mail a 10% chance of needing replacement and 50% of needing repair. Metal armor rules out martial arts, and spell casters other than paladins cannot wear it.
