Plate mail costs 500+ G.P. and is Type V armor, absorbing 5 points of damage per attack while giving -2 on Dexterity saves. For encumbrance it counts as 20 lb., roughly half its true weight.
Under the optional wear rules, 20+ points of fire in one round gives it only a 2% chance of needing replacement and 10% of repair, and prolonged wet weather gives 2% and 40%. Enchanting a full suit with orichalc takes 7 ingots per +1. Spell casters other than paladins may not wear it.
