Magic Staves, Rods and Wands
Skill, Magical/Alchemical
Enchanting staves, rods or wands that hold many spell charges and can be recharged.
From the book
Staves, rods and wands are devices of multiple spell storing. They work like minor magic items but hold far more spells, called charges, and they can all be recharged. Materials match a minor magic item, plus 2,000 GP for a rod or 5,000 GP for a wand; the work takes a month plus a day per charge, about 12 hours daily, with the same 99% chance and daily-attention rules. They sell for at least twice their materials, plus 1,000 GP per week of work and 500 GP per storable spell. No caster may make or use one holding spells restricted to another profession.
A staff is usually wood, 5-7 feet long and up to 2 inches thick, carved with markings by primitive casters or shod with metal by civilized ones. It stores up to 21 charges and may also be enchanted +1-3 to hit. Staves follow a field or theme: black magic, divination, elemental magic, enchantment, healing, high and low magic, mysticism, necromancy, sorcery, the zodiac, or runes.
A rod, 2-3 feet of metal or wood about an inch thick, holds 36 charges and may also carry +1-3 to hit; there are rods of analysis, animal and plant control, detection, divine protection, exorcism, identification, perception, revelations (and a cursed version), the spirit realms and woodland location. A wand, 1 to 1 1/2 feet of metal or bone with a jeweled or carved-bone head, holds up to 50 charges but cannot strike; wands range from arcane bolt and eldritch fire to fog, frost, gravity, illusion, magic darts, shadows, telekinesis, thunderbolt and wind control.
