A feature in the deep Eridan Straits between Cimmeria and Scythian Eridan that causes strange tides and currents in storms and at full moon; sea monsters and sea devils are said to live in it.

A deep sea basin, the Eridan Straits, lies between Hyperborean Cimmeria and Eridan in Scythia. Within it is the Well of Awatan, which stirs up odd tides and currents during storms and under the full moon. Local tales speak of sea monsters and sea devils dwelling deep in the Well, probably much exaggerated since sightings are very rare, though sailors who love a mystery say that is because anyone who meets the Well's true horror never comes back to describe it.
