Quartz is linked to the detection of illusions, and at 1 S.P. a carat it is one of the cheapest stones. Its great use is structural: 12 cts. of powdered quartz go into the clay of an aludel, the alchemist's philosophical vase, and 100 cts. into an athanor, the philosophical furnace. Both vessels must be made by the alchemist personally and are required for the most advanced operations.
