A fertile coastal land in the southwest of the Turanian peninsula whose tall, light-brown people descend partly from Atlantean colonists. It once formed one Atlantean province with Sheba and was later conquered by Hesperia's Amazons, but unlike Sheba it resisted adopting female rule.

Joktan lies on the southwest coast of the Turanian peninsula, with the Red Sea to its south and west, Turan to its north and northeast, and Sheba immediately east. It is a fertile coastal land, less ideal than Sheba but pleasant next to Turan's harsh desert. Its people are tall and handsome, with straight black hair and light brown skin.
Atlantean colonists first settled it in the First Age, when Joktan and Sheba formed a single broad coastal province of the empire. After that age ended, the colonies slid back into barbarism until Hesperia's Amazons swept in and unified the region again. Sheba adopted many Hesperian customs, but Joktan resisted the Amazons' female-ruled ways. Joktan is also among the trade partners pledged to defend Sheba, and its people have felt the violence of Turanian raids.
