Golian Mountains

The Golian Mountains run the full length of Lemuria's southern coast and push into the interior, and they may be the largest range on earth. Some summits, Mt. Sarak and Mt. Nawa above all, are among the tallest anywhere at 20,000 feet or more. East of the Sarakan jungle rises the Golian Wall, a line of palisades that explorers call the steepest and most dangerous cliffs known.

Like the Tarakans, the range is said to teem with hostile beasts. Pterosaurs and pterodactyls nest on the sheerest faces along the Sarakan's southern fringe and the Wall, wyverns fly north from Mu to the southern coastal ridges, and ogres, manticores and ouranabad (winged hydras) reportedly roam the whole range, though not in large numbers.

Plants are scarce but varied. The famed, somewhat erratic Khitan alchemist Chiang-Tu listed jasmine as plentiful, ginseng as very common, ash as bearing excellent but seasonal buds, and poppy as very potent but rare. He also noted topaz, garnets, chrysoprase, a few tourmalines, fine white jade and a good many small but excellent onyxes. Some stones must be dug out, he advised, but good ones can sometimes be picked up where rain pours down the slopes and collects in pools and basins, though certain intelligent beasts know this trick as well.
