Lemuria

Place, Continent/Region

A vast tropical continent of primeval jungle, swamp and very high mountains, only partly mapped by First Age Atlanteans; surviving charts of its interior fetch high prices from scholars. Heavy rain and hurricane winds are common, vegetation grows explosively and many beasts survive only here. Its untapped resources lure adventurers, many of whom never return.

From the book

Lemuria is a huge continent of ancient jungle, gloomy swamps and soaring mountains. First Age Atlantean explorers mapped parts of it, but few of their charts have lasted into the Second Age, so a detailed map of the interior is treasured by some scholars and can command a startling price.

The climate is tropical throughout. Downpours are frequent and sometimes arrive with hurricane winds, and the hot, wet air lets plants flourish so fast that thick growth can appear in a single night. This abundance feeds a remarkable range of animals and monsters, many of which now survive nowhere else.

The continent remains mostly unmapped and untamed, but its untouched natural wealth has long tempted bold adventurers and fortune-seekers. Some have grown rich there; others have vanished into the jungle for good. What is known of Lemuria comes from the few travelers who went and came back alive.
