Broceliande

Broceliande is a small forest kingdom on Mediterranea's southern coast, deep within Draconea and not far from harsh Aragana. In contrast to the rest of that wild region it is orderly and peaceful, with well-kept groves and few dangerous animals, a haven of light and beauty that evil creatures avoid; goblins in particular hold it in superstitious dread. Its capital is the woodland settlement of Celiande.

Its people are wood elves, tall even for elves, with brown skin and light brown or blond hair, graceful and swift, living on simple platforms among the treetops walled by carefully grown vines. They are excellent hunters and archers and make marvelous goods: beautiful clothing, superb bows, lovely instruments and delicate glass. As metalsmiths they are second only to dwarves, though their style is entirely their own.

Many Sidhe, especially wood and water nymphs, share the groves, and a few humans have settled over the ages, mostly members of a druid cult that helps look after the woods. Gypsy bands still wander in now and then, though less often each generation. The King and Queen have ruled for many human lifetimes and keep their realm withdrawn from a hostile world, wary of strangers. They trade fairly often with the high elves of Ys but otherwise deal with few humans beyond the druids and gypsies, although some say a good-hearted person can win the wood elves' friendship forever.
