Winged Demon

Creature, Demons

Proud, impatient messengers of the seven arch demons that answer only to Mephistopheles and their own arch demon, able to teleport or travel between dimensions once a day. They transport, retrieve and deliver for a gem offering, will not fight for a summoner, and curse summoners whose abduction orders go wrong.

From the book

Winged demons are the fast and fearsome messengers of the seven arch demons. They rank below the greater demons but answer to no one except Mephistopheles and the particular arch demon they serve. They fly powerfully and can teleport or travel between dimensions once a day, so they may turn up on any plane. They can see invisible beings, and each can lay one curse a day with the strength of a 6th level spell. Many carry a magic weapon, most often a sword or scimitar. Inexpert observers and novice spell casters sometimes mistake them for djinn.

Anyone calling one should know exactly what they want, since winged demons are proud and short-tempered; at the least hint of confusion or hesitation the demon will jeer and may simply go home. However strong and imposing, a winged demon cannot be made to fight for its summoner. It can carry the summoner and up to six companions anywhere, recover lost or stolen items, or deliver any message, object or person to any place. The price is gems worth at least a thousand gold pieces; offer less and it either leaves in disgust or grabs the summoner and dumps them somewhere hostile or remote, and a protective circle will not prevent this.

It can also be ordered to seize a single creature, but that is risky. It relies on teleporting or crossing dimensions to catch its target by surprise, and if it meets armed resistance or loses surprise it gives up, returns furious to the summoner, lays a powerful curse on them and departs. If it has to defend itself, though, it fights readily.
