Cacodaemon

Creature, Demons

The most powerful and fearsome greater demons, over nine feet tall with leathery wings, ram horns, serpent tails and iridescent scales equal to magical plate. Minor demon lords ruling slave armies from volcanic fortresses, each bound by fear to an arch demon; summoned for a slave to carry victims off to eternal imprisonment or keep things safe.

From the book

Cacodaemons are the strongest and most dreaded of the greater demons. They are horrifying, over nine feet tall, with thick leathery wings, ram's horns and long snake-like tails, their muscular bodies armored in rows of scales that shine with an unearthly sheen and protect as well as magical plate.

On their home plane they count as minor demon lords, each ruling a region of a lower plane with a host of lesser demons and captured slaves, usually from a crude fortress of scorched stone and volcanic rock. The strongest command several greater demons, while the weakest may answer to a mightier cacodaemon. Whatever their rank, fear binds each to one of the seven arch demons, so wars between the followers of rival arch demons are common.

Every cacodaemon casts spells, though skill varies: they work Black Magic and Enchantment and can reach 12th level in both. They fly, and they can sense invisible and astral beings. In battle most use magic only when needed and prefer to fight hand to hand, using magic weapons if they have them and battering or crushing foes with their tails.

A summoned cacodaemon wants at least one slave, ideally human, though it may accept a powerful magic weapon or artifact from a necromancer or black magician. It can then be ordered to carry anyone off into the depths of the Nether Realms, where the victim is locked in its fortress forever; if the victim must first be caught, the price doubles, and the demon gates in 1-4 lesser demons to make the capture rather than doing it itself. It can also hold a person or item in safekeeping, for one slave when the pact is made and another when the charge is returned.
