The supreme master of demonkind, whose true powers scholars dispute: certainly mighty, yet fearful of good, perhaps gigantic and hideous or able to appear as a housefly. He may grant wishes at will, cast any spell, kill by touch and take any form; only the purest, with divine help, could hope to defeat him.

Scholars and sages have argued for countless centuries about what Mephistopheles can and cannot do. That he holds immense power is certain, and it is equally sure that goodness frightens him. He may be huge and hideous, though some claim he has come to the prime material plane several times in the shape of a common housefly.

Some believe his strength lies in being able to grant or cast wishes at will, which alone would make him a terrible enemy. Others claim he can cast any spell whenever he pleases, that his touch is death, and that he can take on the shape and size of any creature imaginable. Whatever the truth, only the purest and noblest of men could hope to overcome the lord of evil, and only a fool would try without the help of the gods. His full powers remain unknown.
