Ruby holds heat and fire. One carat of it, with fire opal and salamander's scales, makes a Potion of Immunity to Fire, which protects the drinker from flame but doubles the harm done by cold. At 30 G.P. per carat it is the second most costly gem on the list, behind only diamond.
