Engineer

Engineers are trained draftsmen who design fortifications, buildings, bridges, mines, monuments and other works. Those with a military past may specialize in building and running siege engines. Most will take on a project in return for about a tenth of its total construction cost.

Since building times and costs in the ancient world varied enormously, the book offers only rough guidelines for play: material costs by the cubic foot of stone or earthworks and the square foot of timber, and daily work rates for a man digging through earth, soft rock or hard rock, for a mason cutting and setting stone, and for a carpenter putting up a structure, each of the last two with a laborer to help.
