The long bow weighs 4 lb., deals 1-8 damage and demands a Strength of 14, the most of any missile weapon. A standard bow costs 50 G.P. and one custom-made to the buyer's strength and size costs 100 G.P.; twenty arrows cost 1 G.P. Its effective range is 200 ft., long range 750 ft.
The book stresses how underrated it is: a good one could shoot 180 ft. on a flat shot and pierce plate mail up close, chain mail at 600 ft. Only a very tall, strong person could use a real one, about 6 ft. long with a 100 lb. pull. Archery I removes the long-range penalty, though not when shooting on the move or from horseback.
