Ogygia

Ogygia lies in the southern Sea of the Dead. Although it is fairly close to Alba and Iber, the grim reputation of the surrounding waters keeps most people away, so what is known comes from the often exaggerated stories of sailors and adventurers.

The best-loved tale is that of Calypso, queen of the Nereids, or sea nymphs. Ogygia, it says, is a paradise of lush greenery, warm springs and cool grottos, and in the loveliest grotto lives Calypso, an enchantress of dazzling beauty, attended by a crowd of nymphs, each fairer than the last, who sing from the shore to passing ships of the island's beauty and peace. Good-hearted men are welcome to rest there, for the isle is a haven for the weary, but anyone who lingers beyond a single night will long to stay forever, since no mortal can resist the charms of Calypso and her people. A man of evil heart who lands there had better beware their magic.
