Place, Landmark
A flat snowfield beyond the Seidhr range that the Jotun call the Fylgjir ('ghost') Plains and never enter; dwarves think it an ancient burial ground. Vanir tales say frost, wind and death demons roam it in the service of Jormungandr, a mysterious monster beneath the ice.

From the book
Beyond the Seidhr range, reaching almost to Jotunland's northern coast, lie the Frost Plains, a perfectly flat sheet of hard-packed snow broken only here and there by an icy ridge or chasm. The Jotun call them the Fylgjir, or 'ghost', Plains and will never set foot on them, saying spirits haunt the place; the dwarves partly support this, believing the plains were once some ancient burial ground, in which case First Age relics might lie beneath the snow.
Vanir tales claim the plains hide more than relics. Earth-bound demons roam there: the Mahrkusha, or frost demons, the Arzori, or wind demons, and the death-demons called Myrtu, who serve the monstrous Jormungandr dwelling deep below the ice. What Jormungandr is remains unknown; Vanir legends variously call it an endless giant serpent, an ancient great dragon, a wizard magically twisted into a hideous demon, or even an ice golem. If it exists, it may be immortal, as some say, with power nearly equal to a demigod's.
