Eria

Place, Continent/Region

A wild continent thought rich in untapped resources and peopled by tribes little understood abroad; outside traders are few and its maps unreliable. Legends name it the ancestral home of the first Atlanteans, and its tall, bronze-skinned eastern tribes and the giant Aesir fit that image, though scholars find no trace of advanced civilization. It runs from icy northern tundra through western conifer hills and central plains to eastern forests and southern swamps.

From the book

Eria is thought to be a continent rich in untouched resources, but it is also a wild place whose tribes remain something of a puzzle to Atlanteans, Mediterraneans and other more advanced peoples. A few outside traders come here, yet the maps of it are held to be somewhat unreliable.

Old legends call Eria the ancestral home of the first Atlanteans. Many eastern Erian tribes, tall, bronze-skinned and dignified, certainly match the popular picture of First Age Atlanteans, and the giant Aesir of Gava may fit it too. Scholars are split, pointing out that no sign of a truly advanced civilization has been found here, yet the oldest Erian legends say their people descend from a race of giants who came across the sea in ships.

The continent holds a great variety of plants, animals and landscapes. The far north is frozen, barren tundra; the west is rolling hills and rich conifer forest; the center has broad plains and wooded hills; and the east runs from rocky hills and thick forest in the north to swamps in the south.
