Empi

Place, Island

A large, desolate island south of Punt, smelling of sulphur and pitch and lit by red fires at night, shunned by all sailors. Called the Island of the Dark Gate and said to be larger inside than out, it may be a gateway to other planes, with a demon kingdom within that sends evil creatures into the world.

Also called The Island of the Dark Gate

From the book

Empi is a large, barren, uninhabited island south of Punt that sailors avoid because of its dreadful name. The smell of sulphur and pitch carries far out to sea, and at night weird red fires glow on its rugged mountain slopes. The few men said to have landed there long ago apparently fled in terror or madness.

Ancient writings name it the Island of the Dark Gate and describe it as bigger inside than out, and tales insist it holds far more land than its shoreline allows. The ravings of mad explorers describe a hundred shifting climates only steps apart, towering cities and dense jungles, and above all a demonic kingdom that guards the island and sends wicked creatures abroad to do evil. At least one Atlantean sage has suggested Empi is a gateway to many planes, from which a traveler might reach not only the neighboring demon realm but other worlds besides.
