Atlantis, painted for this archiveElassippea
Place, Nation
A southwest-jutting peninsula of rolling hills and temperate forest, once a great horse-breeding and shipbuilding land tied to Autochthea, which was hit hardest by the dark ages and is only now reviving. Its herders, nearer to old Atlantean stock than most, and nomadic hunters are proud and independent; the old royal line was murdered by nobles long ago and a hatred of tyranny persists.
From the book
Elassippea's rolling hills were once a jewel of Atlantean culture, known for horse breeding and shipbuilding, where pastoral country mixed with large cities. But its trade depended on Autochthea, so the Cataclysm that swallowed the Lost Kingdom took Elassippea's best as well. The dark ages struck it hardest, and only now is it recovering some of its lost culture.
The kingdom is a southwest-pointing peninsula with Mnesea on its northwest side and water elsewhere: the Sargasso Sea, the River Poseidonus and the Sea of Lost Souls. Its people have mixed less with outsiders and stay close to the original Atlantean type. Once second only to the Plain of Gwyddneu as a granary, the land of hills and temperate forest has largely gone wild, shared by herders and nomadic hunters who live in peace despite frequent friction, all proud, independent and loyal to their king.
The first royal house, the Line of Elassippus, died out long before the First Age ended when nobles, sickened by its greed and cruelty, had the whole family killed; the title survives, but Elassippeans loathe tyranny. Zarzis, a bustling trade town on the Sea of Lost Souls, is the capital and only real port, while Suso, Paria, Motua and Chaha serve as ranching centers and markets for nomads and shepherds. First Age ruins shelter brigands, hermits, monsters or demons, and the worst, Helioselen, is so feared that no Elassippean will name it.
