Amphisea

Place, Nation

The southernmost Atlantean kingdom, a hot equatorial jungle land whose tall, dark-brown people live mostly on the more open east coast, while the dense west is crossed only by decayed First Age roads and haunted by outlaws and corsairs. It trades in wild beasts, hides and furs, and its jungles harbor sorcerous hybrids that collectors pay up to 10,000 gp to acquire.

From the book

Amphisea is the most southerly kingdom of mainland Atlantis, a rough jungle country south of Poseidonea, enclosed by the River Oceanus, the open Atlantean Ocean and the Bay of Maelstroms. The equator runs straight through it, and the heat and humidity keep clothing to a minimum, only the lightest cotton linen.

Its people are the darkest of the Atlantean races, more brown than bronze, and usually tall and lean. Most live on the east coast, where the jungle thins and kept-up roads carry the odd peddler or merchant from the north between the ports of Caprar, Likong, Marena and the capital Ampator, where the king lives. Westward the jungle grows nearly impassable except along crumbling First Age roads that only brigands and outcasts now use, and corsairs hide in uncharted western coves, though the Bay of Maelstroms threatens even them.

The land lives on wild animals, hides and furs. Ships full of caged lions, panthers, boars and black apes sail from Ampator every day for the arenas of Atlantis and beyond, alongside trained pets and guard animals, so skilled hunters, trainers and beast masters always find work. Deeper in the jungle lurk manticores, chimeras and griffons, sorcerous survivors of the Cataclysm; eccentric collectors will pay as much as 10,000 gold pieces for one healthy specimen, which seems fair given the danger of catching it.
