The deep trench, over 20,000 feet in places, dividing the Antillan plateau from the shelves of Eria and Tamoanchan; its fast waters are full of tuna and cod but infested by Makara, who make crossing so dangerous that contact between Erians, Tamoanchans and Tritons is rare.

This deep channel lies between the Antillan plateau and the continental shelves of Tamoanchan and Eria. Its floor drops below 20,000 feet in places, and depths of 18,500 feet are common on the Antillan side, while the Erian and Tamoanchan sides are often far shallower, sometimes only 1,000 feet.
Its fast waters hold big schools of fish, with tuna and cod in its northern stretches. Tritons and men can rarely exploit them, but they feed the Makara sea devils who flourish here. Great numbers of these hostile humanoids roam between Antilla, Eria and Tamoanchan, threatening all three coasts and harassing travelers who try the crossing, so that only the boldest or most reckless still attempt it. As a result, humans of Eria and Tamoanchan seldom meet the Tritons of Antilla.
