Diaprepea

Diaprepea is an island kingdom lying between Azae and the Ophirean coast, at the mouth where the Oceanus runs into the Atlantean Ocean. It is poor: Cataclysm floods drowned much of its farmland and several ancient cities. The citadel of Mehedra, on a high ridge with cliffs on three sides, came through untouched, and most of the population now lives inside its walls.

Diaprepeans are dark-skinned and strikingly tall, of mixed Atlantean, Ophirean and Hesperian blood. Long among the realm's most loyal subjects, they are famed fighters; men and women alike may join the respected Diaprepean infantry, and its elite units have long served in the Royal Guard in the capital.

The ruler, king or queen, commands the army, must be a proven Diaprepean soldier, and unlike most Atlantean monarchs is chosen by popular vote for six years. The island's small population gives little weight on the Council of Kings, yet its ruler is deeply respected, and no Council has ever gone to war against Diaprepean advice.

Beyond Mehedra the isle is deep jungle. Nethermen tribes hold the interior, making inland travel risky, and sometimes several band together to assault the citadel, never yet breaching it. First Age ruins run from the coasts out into the sea; some offshore pyramids are said to be dry and whole inside, treasure intact but watched by fell beings. The most notorious is the Drowned City of Domanu at the tip of the Peninsula of Ad on the south side.
