Creature, The Undead
A formless shadow-undead created when a necromancer's domination spells bind a living being's spirit past death to the caster's will or an artifact. Seen only as glowing red eyes in hooded robes, it drains energy by touch or weapon, grows stronger at night, and can read and track the life-auras of the living.
From the book
Kvasir of Midgarth calls wraiths shadowy terrors bound to a necromancer's will and doomed to an endless bodiless existence in darkness; they shun sunlight and are to be feared by even the strongest men. A wraith is made by holding a living being under domination spells so powerful that its spirit cannot pass on at death. Its life essence stays bound to the necromancer, or to an artifact the caster has filled with a control spell.
A wraith has no form of its own and takes human shape only when dressed, usually in a dark hooded cloak, flowing robes, boots and gloves. Nothing shows inside the hood but two red eyes glowing in the shadow. Wraiths cannot manifest as fully as ghosts, so they need weapons to fight the living.
Daylight, strongest at noon, weakens but does not hurt them, so they venture out by day only when they must; at night their power grows. Every touch or weapon blow from a wraith drains energy on top of normal damage. Ordinary weapons cannot affect them, and magic can banish but not wound them, while silver weapons do half damage and magic weapons full damage.
Their most frightening gift is sight of the faint auras all living things give off. From the tiny traces of life energy a creature leaves behind, a wraith can judge its alignment and relative level, and even follow its trail, though some magic can foil this. Nightmares often serve wraiths as mounts. A wraith's touch drains 2 points of energy per level. It reads auras at will within 20 feet, follows a spirit trail with 95% success, sees invisible, ethereal and astral beings up to 1,000 feet away, and intuitively senses living beings within 20 feet.
