Creature, Were-Creatures
The most common and perhaps most dangerous were-creature: a tireless, blood-scenting night hunter whose lycanthropy tends to worsen until the change becomes permanent. Its bite is the likeliest to pass on the disease.
From the book
Werewolves are the most common were-creatures and possibly the most dangerous. Weaker than werebears or wereboars, they are matched by few beasts in savagery. The smell of blood draws them, they track superbly by both scent and sound, and like wolves they can run almost without tiring, chasing victims for miles; with a beast's cunning they often follow prey a long way before choosing their moment.
They hunt by night, and most can take wolf form only at the full moon. But lycanthropy advances much faster and deeper in werewolves than in other kinds: for many victims each change lasts longer than the one before, until all humanity is gone and the wolf form becomes permanent and cannot be undone. Its bite is the likeliest of any were-creature's to spread the disease; experts put the chance at as much as 35-40%, with up to a 20% chance that the illness is the progressive kind.
In combat they are terrifying. Silver can hurt them, but they do not fear it, and wounding one only makes it more dangerous; badly hurt, it often goes berserk and attacks with double ferocity. A werewolf regenerates a point of damage every minute, and tracks prey by scent with 75% success. Their claws tear easily through leather and hide, though luckily their dangerous fangs rarely get through such armor. Many say werewolves are driven off by aconite, also called monk's hood or wolfbane, but even believers admit it only works if picked within the past twenty-four hours.
