Creature, Were-Creatures
A lycanthrope that becomes a great cat (lion, jaguar, tiger or panther, by region) on the three nights of the full moon. Hard to detect in human form and often female, it is cruel to its prey but less wanton than werewolves.
From the book
A werecat is a lycanthrope who becomes a large, deadly cat at moonrise on all three full-moon nights. The kind usually reflects where the curse was first caught: lions across most civilized lands, jaguars in the west, tigers in eastern lands and panthers in the south. None thrive outside the hottest tropical or warm temperate regions, unlike wereboars, which keep to temperate lands, and werewolves, which range from temperate zones into the sub-arctic.
In human form werecats are hard to spot. They show some of the usual signs of lycanthropy, such as dislike of silver or hairy hands, but more faintly than other lycanthropes. Lithe and graceful, they see very well in the dark, and many are female.
Their powers match those of other lycanthropes. Only silver weapons or weapons enchanted specifically against werecats harm them, and only fire, command and illusion spells work fully on them. Some claim catnip enchanted by the light of a full moon affects werecats as wolfbane affects werewolves, though this is disputed. They seldom attack except when hungry, apart from the odd case where a change strikes during an amorous encounter, and they tend to avoid clashes with humans. They can be very cruel, playing with their prey mercilessly, yet are less evil and bloodthirsty than werewolves and slower to mindless rage than wereboars. A werecat tracks prey by scent with 80% success and regenerates a point of damage every minute.
