Were-Creatures, painted for this archiveWere-Creatures: overview
Creature, Were-Creatures
Lycanthropes: people who seem ordinary by day but become ravenous man-beasts under the full moon. Silver and aconite ward them off, and their bite spreads the curse.
Also called Were-Creatures
From the book
An old verse by an unknown author warns that lycanthropes live among ordinary people and cannot be told apart from their neighbors until a full moon exposes them. Then these legendary shape-changers, starved for flesh, take the shape of beast-men and stalk the night for prey. Silver and aconite can drive them off when nothing else works, but anyone bitten by one who survives is doomed to become one of these night creatures himself.
All were-creatures share two traits: spells of influence or control have no effect on them, and only silver or magical weapons can harm them. The chapter describes the werebat, werebear, wereboar, werecat and werewolf.
