Erymanthian Boar

Creature, Magical Hybrids and Constructs

Huge, ill-tempered boars that stand eight feet at the shoulder and reach fourteen feet or more in length, armed with razor-sharp tusks. Though they eat only plants, they roam alone over wide ranges and wreck crops, fences and even small buildings, so one in a district usually draws large hunting parties, as Chiron's Natural History recounts.

Also called Erymanthian boars

From the book

Erymanthian boars are savage, destructive beasts eight feet tall at the shoulder and fourteen feet or more from snout to tail. Like other boars they are ugly, with razor-edged tusks and a notoriously foul temper. They eat only plants, but their size and meanness make them extremely dangerous. Fortunately they rarely gather in groups, since each needs a huge range to find enough food for its massive body. Anyone struck by its tusks must save vs DEX or be knocked down and left open to trampling, and once its wounds pass 75% of its hit points it goes berserk, doubling all its tusk attacks.

Their main threat to people is destruction: a rampaging boar flattens crops and fields, smashes fences and can even knock down small or flimsy buildings. When one appears in a district, crowds of hunters usually band together to chase it off or kill it. Chiron's Natural History shows how perilous that can be: the first spear only wounded the beast's shoulder, and the maddened boar swerved away straight into a second party, goring two hunters to death and trampling a third who had tripped over a tree root. In some regions their tusks sell for up to 50 gold pieces each and are said to be used in certain alchemical mixtures.
