Animals, painted for this archiveExceptional Animal Species: overview
Creature, Animals
First Age Atlantean sorcery produced giant and dwarf strains of plants and animals, some of which may survive in the wilds. Judges can scale level and damage with size; giant forms gain STR and CON but lose SPD and DEX, dwarf forms the reverse.

From the book
Bizarre experiments by Atlantean sorcerers in the vanished First Age bred many oddities, including giant and dwarf strains of plants and animals. Some are believed to have outlasted the Cataclysm that ended that age and to lurk still in the wilds of the known world.
To use them in a Second Age campaign, the Game Judge scales an animal's level and attack damage in proportion to its size, whether half or double normal. Giants may gain STR and CON but lose SPD and DEX; dwarfs may be quicker and nimbler but weaker or less durable.
At a glance
- Scaling
- level and attack damage in proportion to size (½ normal, twice normal, etc.)
- Giant species
- more STR and CON, less SPD and DEX
- Dwarf species
- swifter and more agile, less strong or durable
