From the book

Solmeht the Chronicler tells how the sorcerers of Atlantis came to believe themselves the gods' equals and began meddling with the very stuff of life. They made tireless golems of stone and shaped beasts to their own unnatural plans: griffons, chimeras, manticores, the beast-men called Andaman and a hundred other creations. The Great Cataclysm ended the First Age of Atlantis and its sorcerers with it, and most of their unholy works sank beneath the sea alongside their makers. Some, however, lived on, and they still trouble the people of the Second Age.

The chapter covers both living hybrids (the Andaman, griffon, manticore and chimera, along with the giant Nemean lion and Erymanthian boar) and artificial beings: homonculi, machinae, golems and living statues.
