Forgery

Skill, Thieving

Faking official papers, signatures, seals and sigils; only someone who knows the genuine article can spot the fake.

From the book

Forgery lets a character copy official papers and signatures, even elaborate seals and sigils. A simple forgery takes at least an hour and a complicated one proportionally longer. The forger normally needs a genuine example to work from; if the original has been studied closely beforehand this can be skipped, but otherwise working without one halves the chance of success.

The normal chance is 45%, plus 5% per level. The forger cannot tell whether the result will pass until someone who knows the real thing examines it; by the same token, anyone who has never seen the original has no way at all to spot the fake. Spies learn it at sixth level.
