Mercenaries of every stripe can often be found for hire as guards, escorts and other armed help. Their pay is reckoned by the week and rises with level, and it depends on the kind of soldier engaged: plain foot soldiers and guards are cheapest, mounted troops and archers cost more, and artillerists more again.

Officers must have reached a minimum level before they can be hired in that rank, sergeants at 3rd, lieutenants at 5th and captains at 7th, and they are paid correspondingly more.
