Alchemy, Essence

A violet liquid; an amulet, rod or wand doused in it for a week protects the wearer from control spells and lets him command many creatures; a quarter dose adds a command word to any magic item.

From the book

A violet liquid, one fluid ounce in quantity. An amulet, rod or wand doused in it daily for a week grants whoever wears it two powers. First, control spells such as charm, hold person and slow have no effect on the wearer. Second, the wearer can compel up to 200 levels' worth of creatures of any type to obey; creatures or beings with a WILL of 15 or more may save vs WILL to resist.

A quarter dose can also be mixed into the dousing liquid for any other magic item, so that only someone who knows its command word, which may be any word or name, can set it off.

Only the alchemist who made the essence can do the dousing, an hour every day, and missing a single day ruins the enchantment.
