Merina predates the Amazon conquest and, besides the usual fortified military post, has a large civilian population. It is a key trading link between Hesperia and Atlantis and a stop for merchants from many other lands, and it ranks among the wealthiest cities anywhere. It is also rigidly segregated: Hesperians and outsiders may not socialize, and each has its own shops, taverns and other facilities. Foreigners staying in Celaenea over a month must live in the city's Foreigners' Quarter.
