Iron Mountains

North of the twin forests stand the Iron Mountains, a snow-capped range spreading over more than 1,000 square miles. As with the Fells, parts of it have been scarred by the Fomorians, who from time to time have mined its substantial deposits of tin, copper and iron ore on a large scale. Rubies and onyx occur too, with rich finds reported just 10-40 feet below the surface.

The few who have prospected in this grim country have often done well, though sometimes at terrible cost: cave trolls, mountain trolls and wyrms haunt the depths, and fierce wind and snow storms are common. Several tribes of Nethermen live in the range; all but one or two of these warlike bands are said to hate humans, and even the Fomorians keep well clear of them. The Nether tribes usually stay in the mountains, so they are rarely met in the forests or on the coast, and they themselves avoid the range's northern faces for fear of what may dwell in the polar lands beyond.
