Atlantis, painted for this archiveAtlantean Ocean
Place, Sea
A vast, largely uncharted ocean whose First Age trade routes are now nearly abandoned; sailors believe its heart is empty of land and hug the coasts. Antillan Tritons roam it freely and keep its southern islands secret, while violent storms, undersea quakes and maelstroms make it perilous.

From the book
The open Atlantean Ocean is huge and mostly unmapped. Atlantean ships once sailed its lanes in the bold First Age, but those old routes are now almost never used. A few Atlantean ships and the occasional daring Tharshesh crew visit its northern waters, and now and then a vessel from Tarucua in Tamoanchan crosses to Atlantis or Gondwana, but the distant reaches stay unexplored in this fearful age. Old charts show many islands in the south, yet modern ones omit them, and sailors have long been sure the whole span bounded by Atlantis, Gondwana, Tamoanchan and the Nether Realm holds no land at all, so many will not sail out of sight of a coast for fear of never finding shore again.
The Antillan Tritons roam these waters freely, delighting in the absence of land folk and the wealth of wild sea life. They know of the southern islands but have not explored them, and to keep the ocean as a last refuge they tell outsiders nothing, not even that they travel the deep central and southern waters.
The sea is rarely calm. Currents are relentless and storms frequent, and earthquakes on the eastern seabed raise tidal waves and surging currents. Maelstroms come and go, and two never leave: one at Maelstrom Bay off eastern Atlantis, the only one on human maps, and the Maw in the central ocean, the greatest in the world.
