Unicorn

Creature, The Sylvan Races

A rare, shy woodland creature like a small slender horse with a flowing mane and a spiral horn, living alone or in mated pairs and said to allow only pure-hearted maidens to ride it. Swift and trackless, it senses life a mile away; its horn pierces even magic armor, it cannot be charmed or poisoned, and its horn is among the rarest of treasures.

From the book

Unicorns are rare, elusive woodland creatures of remarkable beauty and grace. They look like small, slender horses with long, flowing manes, set apart from all other horses by the single spiralling horn in the middle of the forehead. Shy by nature, they avoid most other beings and live alone or in mated pairs, though they may put up with elves, nymphs and the gentler Sidhe, and feel a strange pull toward human women. Legend says a unicorn will carry only a virgin maiden who is pure of heart.

Among the fastest of creatures, they slip through the thickest forest so lightly that they leave no trail, usually not even one magic can find. They can also sense living things of every kind up to a mile away, which makes them nearly impossible to watch, let alone catch. The appendix describes this as a sense for danger that reaches a mile.

Gentle as they are, unicorns can defend themselves well. The horn is a fearsome weapon said to pierce even magical armor, and the hooves are used too, though only when every way of escape is blocked. No spell of control or influence works on them, so they cannot be charmed, no poison or toxin affects them, and they have 50% resistance to magic.

Collectors of rare beasts have long hunted them, mostly without success. Spell casters and alchemists prize the horn for its many reputed powers, and it remains one of the scarcest goods in the world, worth a king's ransom in gold.
