The Goblin Races: overview

Creature, The Goblin Races

Goblin-kind, perhaps a degenerate, magic-less offshoot of the Sidhe. They favor dank caves and swamps, spoil beautiful things and covet riches; only their endless infighting keeps them from overrunning the world.

From the book

The goblin races are a family of brutish peoples that some believe descended from the Sidhe and degenerated into coarse, backward creatures with none of their ancestors' magic. Kullervo the Wanderer, whose words open the chapter, says they favor damp caverns and dismal swamps because woodland glades and open country give them no pleasure. Anything beautiful they would rather smash or twist to suit their own warped taste, and the only thing they truly crave is wealth, the one way in which they resemble humankind. He counts it a blessing that they squabble and fight among themselves, since otherwise their kind might overrun the world.

The chapter covers goblins proper, ogres, and four sorts of troll: the rock troll, mountain troll, swamp troll and cave troll.
