Jinn

Creature, Devils

Greater devils drawn from one of the four elements and sworn to Asmodeus, the Jinn come in four kinds: brown-skinned Jann of earth, white-skinned Genii of air, red-skinned Efreeti of fire and green-skinned Marid of water. A summoner can ask one for a limited wish or, by forcing it into a pact, up to three services within twenty-four hours, though a coerced Jinn tends to twist its orders.

From the book

Jinn are greater devils whose powers come from one of the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Some scholars think they are closer kin to true elementals than to devils, but their loyalty to Asmodeus, lord of the devil races, is certain and complete. There are four kinds, one for each element, and all are proud and fierce, particularly when angered.

A summoned Jinn of any kind owes its summoner a choice: one wish of limited power, or as many as three services. For services, the summoner must somehow force it into a pact, as described in The Arcanum; if that succeeds, the summoner may call on it up to three times over the next twenty-four hours, each service lasting no more than ten minutes, and it cannot refuse any reasonable command. A summoner who only wants a limited wish needn't force a pact at all, but should politely ask the Jinn its name; if called by that name in future, it will remember the courtesy and respond accordingly. Those who bully a Jinn into the traditional three services, on the other hand, will find it likely to bend their commands to suit its whims.

Each kind has its own look and its own way of arriving. The brown-skinned Jann come out of a swirl of dust and master every spell of earth and stone; the best known are Mentifil, Ordaphe, Idurah, Musar, Necas, Erami and Andimo. White-skinned Genii ride in on a rushing wind, command wind and air, and can fly or turn invisible whenever they wish; their famous names are Parahim, Apilki, Erkeya, Dalep, Capisi, Drisophi, Glisi and Cargoste. Red-skinned Efreeti appear in acrid smoke, wield every fire spell and take no harm from heat or flame; among them are Pyrhum, Aphtiph, Orudu, Itumo, Coroman, Tapheth, Oriman and Amtophul. Green-skinned Marid rise from a whirl of mist, work water and ice, and are proof against cold; Amasol, Ardiphne, Isaphil, Amue, Aposto, Ermot and Istiphul are named among them.

Every Jinn can cast any Enchantment spell, but its Elemental Magic is limited to the spells of its own element, and it always casts at its own level of ability. Any Jinn can teleport or travel between dimensions at will, speaks in tongues whenever it likes, and within 100 feet can see magic and sense invisible, ethereal and astral beings.

Every Jinn casts Enchantment spells (any) and, to a lesser degree, Elemental Magic by kind: Jann earth and stone, Genii wind and air, Efreet fire and heat, Marid water and ice; its spell casting level equals its own level
