Boggart

Creature, The Sidhe

The most spiteful of the Sidhe: wrinkled, old-man-like faeries of woods and swamps who can recolor their skin to vanish into any natural setting. They set booby traps, trail travelers for days pilfering valuables, hide their loot in holes too small to follow, and use a few spells a day to confound would-be captors; solitary, they mostly talk to themselves and usually lie.

From the book

Boggarts, also called bogey men, are the nastiest of the Sidhe, found in woods and swamps across the known world. They stand about two feet tall and look like shrunken, deeply wrinkled old men, a look they have from the day they are born. Their skin is usually somewhere between yellow-brown and green, but they can shift it to any color or mix of colors found in nature, which lets them spy on others almost unseen in any natural setting.

Spiteful by nature, Boggarts rig traps, play tricks and filch from anyone crossing their territory. Expert sneaks and pickpockets, they will boldly shadow travelers for days, lifting coins, jewels and other valuables. Legend says a captured Boggart must give up the hiding place of its loot, so they stash it in stump holes, badger setts and other spots too tight for bigger folk. Up to three times a day they can cast spells (Invisibility, Detect Magic, False Dweomer and Phase Shift are typical), mostly to confuse treasure hunters.

They fight badly and avoid it; if cornered they bite hard, and they pelt people with stones for mischief but never to kill. Unusually for faeries, Boggarts live alone and would rather talk, and even argue, with themselves. Approached gently, one may chat for a short while, but most of what it says will be lies. In play a Boggart moves silently and picks pockets at 90%, can read magic, and goes unnoticed 90% of the time in any wild country while its skin is shifting color. Its three daily spells are cast at 1st-4th level of ability, and some Boggarts know spells beyond the usual ones.
