A versatile bolt of force for bludgeoning damage, battering doors, stunning or knocking foes down.

A handy general-purpose attack: the caster hurls a tightly focused bolt of magical energy up to 100 ft., striking any creature or object that is not ethereal for 1-4 bludgeoning damage per level of ability (save vs Dexterity for half). A strong enough bolt can smash doors and wooden barriers. An average 2' thick wooden door holds against 8 + 1-4 points, and heavier, reinforced and iron doors take two, three and four times as much.
The caster can instead declare before casting that he means to stun or to knock down. A stunning bolt rolls normal damage but only half of it is real, and a victim brought to zero hit points this way falls unconscious for 2-20 minutes. A knockdown bolt allows a save vs Dexterity. On a failure the victim takes no real damage but is thrown 1-10 ft. back and off his feet, needing a full minute to stand; a victim who succeeds takes no damage at all. Creatures of 400 lbs. or more cannot be knocked down.

A scene
Mikon's rival in the charlatan trade has locked himself in his lodgings above the Roadside Market, behind a door of good Atlantean oak, and refuses to return the borrowed money. Mikon, who knows exactly one spell of any real use, raises his hand and hurls it. There is a loud thump, a puff of dust and a smell of scorched wood. The door shivers in its frame and stays exactly where it is. From behind it comes a voice suggesting that Mikon try knocking next time. Mikon, rubbing his hand, considers the window.
