Negative Illusion

Spell, Enchantment, level 7

Makes an object or creature seem to have vanished; only Dispel Illusion restores true perception.

From the book

Instead of making something appear, the caster makes one real object or creature, up to 10x10x10 ft., seem to vanish. If cast on a fighter's sword, for example, the fighter looks down and sees no sword. Gripping it gives the usual save vs Perception for illusions, but on a failure the fighter is utterly sure the sword is gone.

No argument will persuade victims that the unseen thing is really there; only Dispel Illusion brings their perception back. Detect Invisibility does not reveal things hidden this way. The spell works out to 100 ft. and lasts 1 hour per level of ability.

A scene

The Nubian mercenary charged up the stairs at the magician with his great sword raised, and Maat spoke one sharp word. He looked at his hands. The sword was gone. He could feel something in his grip, heavy, but when he looked again there was nothing there, and he let go of the thing he could not see; it clattered on the stairs. He stared at the floor where the sound had come from, and saw only the floor. Maat stepped over the sword he could not see and walked past him.
