The caster's bound spirits push creatures or objects back and hold them at a short distance without harming them, as long as he concentrates; ranged attacks still get through.

Calling on the spirit forms he has bound into service, the caster physically pushes away creatures or objects of up to 50 lbs. per caster level. Nothing is harmed, but whatever is repelled can be held off up to 10 ft. away for as long as 1 minute per level of ability.
The caster must concentrate completely to keep the effect going. Creatures held at bay can still strike from a distance with spells, gaze or breath weapons and the like, and the spell does nothing to stop them acting outside its 10 ft. radius.

A scene
The lions come to the waterhole at Marhashi at dusk, just as the children are filling the gourds. The shaman Obuya steps between them and raises both palms. The spirits he carries surge outward, and the great black-maned male is lifted off its paws and shoved back through the dust until it stands ten feet away, snarling at nothing. Obuya holds it there, sweat pouring down his face, every thought in his head bent on the push. Behind him the children scramble up the thorn tree. Only then does he let go.
